What is Kiyomizu dera’s closing time and most practical last entry?

If you want to plan lots of things in one day, what you want to know is which temples open till what time. When most of the temples close at 5 pm, Kiyomizu-dera temple opens bit later than that.

What is Kiyomizu dera’s closing time?

The temple always opens the gate at 6 am but closing time is different by season. Mostly they are open until 6 pm, and some days they will stay open till 6.30 pm.

In 2019, the days they are open until 6.30 is Sats, Suns and public holidays between 8th April to 30th June, and July and August.

There is also evening light up from 6 pm to 9 pm seasonally. Please check the end of this page if you are interested.

When is the most practical last entry.

When they say they are open until 6 pm, that means you have to be out of the temple before that. It takes about 30 mins to look around so you want to enter at least 5.30 pm.

What is the shops hours.

The temple’s shop opens until 6 pm. Also, most of the shops around the temple are also open until Kiyomizu-dera close. If you are planning to visit Jishu-shrine, where it is famous for love stone, they close at 5 pm.

Zugui-do hall where you can tour for exploring the sanctified area underneath the hall is also close at 4 pm except during the light up period.

If you want everything to be open, you should visit the temple between 9 am to 4 pm.

Kiyomizu-dera opens for late night viewing for some days of the year. In 2019, the dates are 8th to 17th March, 29th March to 7th April, 14th to 16th August and 16th November to 1st December.

As there are not many days open until late, it always gets crazy busy. Try to avoid the weekends or visit after 8 pm when earlier people start to leave.
